Exhibition.
The society held an exhibition on the afternoon of 8th September 2001 in the Methodist Church Hall in Haltwhistle to introduce the aims of the society to the people of Haltwhistle and district.
The items on exhibition were examples of some of the pictures and documents that the society has collected so far.
These were exhibited under several headings such as Retail, People, War and Peace and Haltwhistle Through The Ages.
A section entitled Who Are They? showing old photographs of people and asking visitors to identify them caused great interest. In addition several people kindly lent scrapbooks, a collection of old postcards showing old views of the area and objects of interest for display on the day. All exhibits generated a lot of interest. Tea and coffee were served with locally made biscuits and shortbreads
The committee was very pleased that over 300 visitors came to the hall, and over 65 people joined the society on the day with many more since.
