About the Haltwhistle History Group
We support whatever the group wishes to do from formal research of topics of interest (railways, mines and quarries for example) to collection of stories and anecdotes about the past (recent and further back).

As the group develops we will put on exhibitions locally for the local people and visitors alike.
You have probably heard of Wikipedia, possibly even used the vast online encyclopedia. Well, we have the beginnings of our very own wiki for the heritage and history of the area.
See our WikiWe meet once a month. There will usually be a speaker on a planned topic and then we have refreshments and a discussion/chat. It's welcoming and enjoyable. Any formal planning for the group takes place outside the monthly meeting so you don't need to be bothered with that aspect of the group if you don't want to be.
We would love to tap into your knowledge and memories of the heritage and history of the area. What do you know about the shops, the businesses, the house you live in (or one you have lived in previously)? It's all useful information we can record. What was it like living in the 40's, 50's, 60's? Your social recollections are of interest to more people than you might imagine. Do you have photos you can share?
We are building up a programme for the year and for 2025. Are there topics you would like to hear about? Do let us know.
Our planned programme for the next few months includes:
Don't hesitate to contact us with questions, ideas or information. We will do what we can to help and respond as soon as possible.
